Situated within the exclusive waterfront precinct Yarra’s Edge, Docklands is Array, an iconic apartment tower with absolute riverfront. The Penthouse spans over levels 38 and 39, offering 427m2 of internal space. The apartment provides four bedrooms, four bathrooms, butler’s pantry, a private lift, four car garage, dramatic double height living and entertaining area with open tread timber staircase, and a 65m2 terrace which overlooks the Yarra River and Melbourne’s skyline. From the exterior, this design feature articulates the apartment’s presence in the Melbourne skyline.
The interior brief was to create a bespoke, sophisticated and opulent space, befitting the premium location, and to be commensurate with the significant asking price for the residence. To meet the expectations of the world’s most discerning clientele, internationally sourced high end appliances and technological goods were incorporated, as well as stone bath tubs, a home automation system, gas fireplace and the inclusion of a private lift.
The interior selections of the Penthouse were thoughtfully crafted. Taking inspiration from around the world, the Penthouse features an assortment of quality finishes and fixtures, including natural stone, marble kitchen bench, metal coat joinery, European oak timber floorboards, metallic tiles, custom designed wall paper, timber veneer and vinyl wall panelling.
Renowned fashion illustrator Megan Hess was employed as curator to the Penthouse’s interior furnishings, sourcing bespoke items from around the globe.
Array was carefully designed and orientated to capture the ultimate balance between views and solar access. The Penthouse, with double height glazed windows and 6m void over the living room, encompasses an abundance of natural light and a deep reveal provides solar protection to the northern façade without compromising views and outlook.
Due to the prevailing wind conditions in the docklands, the Penthouse incorporates a double height glazed screen on the eastern aspect of the balcony, protecting the external terrace and providing a seamlessly integrated and flexible outdoor space that is usable all months of the year.
All residents in Array were provided with iPads containing a unique Array app that provides detailed information about their apartment and the overall building. Information includes a move-in guide, key contacts, cleaning recommendations, sustainability initiatives, owner’s corporation rules, subcontractor list, finishes schedule and an operating manual and maintenance guide. The app can be updated in real time, ensuring all residents are aware of any changes or important information.
Array represented a significant challenge to the construction team due to the use of high quality materials and the level of customisation required to the apartment. On completion, over 80% of purchasers who inspected their apartment had zero defects and 96% rated their overall feedback ‘good to excellent’. This achievement was only possible due to a rigorous defecting process in which the Design, Construction, Development and Customer Relations team inspected every apartment for defects and re-inspected to ensure any defects had been rectified.
